About Us
Welcome to Black Dog K-9 Performance
Black Dog is dedicated to helping dogs and their guardians live together in harmony and nourishing the natural bond between them.
Every year millions of dogs are euthenized in the United States. Some of these dogs are homeless or abandoned but many are given up because of behavior problems. These dogs are misunderstood and could become loving family members with proper training.
Providing that training is why we started Black Dog K-9 Performance.
Owner / Trainer Marty Sullivan and his wife Heide have opened their home to many shelter dogs who for one reason or another were abandoned or given up and have worked through their problems using positive reinforcement training methods.
Marty is a graduate of Animal Behavior College in California and is a Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors.
He is also an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen evaluator and certified by G.A.P.(Gifted Animal Placement) finding therapy, search and rescue and assistance dogs in shelters.
As trainer for one of the largest animal shelters in the U.S. www.Animalwelfareleague.com. Marty and Heide work with all breeds and problems including aggression,(toward humans and dogs).  In addition to training, Marty is the general manager of Pawsitivley Heaven Pet Resort in Chicago Ridge Illinois Visit www.Pawsitivelyheavenpetresort.com. for information.
We are the proud guardians of our own dogs, Simon, Gracie, Alf,Gidian,Thornton and Andy.

Thanks for responding to my message today re our newly adopted Gemini. She is a 13 month old chocolate Lab. She's a beautiful dog, but has some behavior issues that needs correcting. I have shared this information with you in an earlier message. Now I want to thank you for your timely response. We will be looking forward to talking with you and/or your staff member later this week. Hopefully, something will be available to help me work with my dog's bad habits. We have had her since June 4th and expected an adjustment period. Don't want to wait before trying to help her with positive reinforcements. Gemini is a medium sized dog but she's strong, heavy and plays very rough. Weighing in @ 62 lbs is one reason she needs to be manageable. She has been placed for adoption twice in 6 months and I believe I am her last chance for a good home. Because of her size, it's difficult to handle her in her playful mode. A loud and strong command sometimes get her attention for a short while, but doesn't stop her most of the time. She seems to be energetic and it's hard to get her to settle down - maybe this is due to her age. I believe Gemini has the potential to become a great companion because she's smart. Your canine training operation appears to be just what the doctor ordered. You have an affection for animals and will understand how we feel about our new companion. Any help you are willing to provide us will be greatly appreciated and if it not too expensive, I would love to have you work with our dog. My husband and I are retired now but have always had a heart for animals. Currently we are the owners of three cats and another small dog. Bless you both
